Clay is a natural and earthy element – one I can readily relate to and work with in many ways. I make functional and sculptural work at my studio, south of Auckland, in rural Ramarama. My love of nature and sustainability is my inspiration, leading to all manner of clay building, by wheel, hand or mold – followed by surface treatments of carving, drawing and glaze. I use a range of firing methods; electric, gas and Wood fired – completing my own wood kiln build in 2013.

For many years I have been interested in wood and woodturning, and my work, whilst simple in nature, reflects the beauty that trees and timber bring to our daily lives.
Small pieces of timber become exquisite pieces of art, and we are blessed in New Zealand with the amount of variety of timbers that are available for us to turn.
Working alongside Margaret and her ceramic studio has allowed the opportunity to collaborate and expand my styles of work, while still enjoying the traditional shapes and forms..
Nestled in a peaceful valley, our studio has been uniquely designed and purpose built, for functionality and artistic creativity. The spacious studio is split into workable areas, inside and out. These are equipped for the many stages of ceramic building, glazing and firing as well as glass casting, woodturning and photography. There is an area to view finished pieces and work is underway for a gallery area.
Our facilities include throwing wheels both electric and a kick wheel, generous work benches, a slab roller, a glaze spray booth with air extraction, shelving and storage for work during the making process.
We have four kilns on site; Electric, Gas and a wood fired kiln (constructed 2013) which allows for a great variation of firing techniques and finishes. Please feel welcome to visit us in studio or to view our work. We have an open studio day once a week where you are able to join us to make your own creations in clay. Contact us for details.
